Behavior Expectations and Guidance
We use a positive and reflective approach to discipline. Our school follows the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) in grades PK-5. We also have think sheets aligned to the Respect Matrix.
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidenced-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed
IReady
Iready in grades K-5 is used as a tracking and monitoring system. It is also a system that has additional instructional lessons and practice for students to advance their learning. Teachers use this program to form instructional groups and target skill areas that need additional support.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum
The Samford Harmony program provides PreK-5th grade teachers with everything they need to successfully social-emotional learning into the classroom, including training, lessons, activities, videos, stories, games, and songs.
Harmony provides educators with the tools to foster and support social connections among all students, and to promote the social, emotional, and cognitive skills students need to successfully negotiate peer interactions, develop positive peer relationships, and thrive in school. Harmony incorporates multiple methods to teach positive relationships and create an inclusive classroom environment. A multi-layered approach is necessary to build a mutually respectful learning community.
By combining these approaches, students not only gain interpersonal competencies, but they also have continual experiences that promote the development of positive attitudes and relationships, as well as a supportive classroom climate.
