Enrollment Questions and Answers

The City School District of the City of New York (the New York City public schools) is the largest school system in the United States, with over 1.1 million students taught in more than 1,800 separate schools. Applying for school is a big decision and can be an overwhelming process. We receive many calls and emails from parents, some of the main enrollment questions are listed below:

What district is PS150Q?
PS150Q is located in District 30.

How do I enroll my child into Pre-K?
Currently we have three full day Pre-K classes. These classes are located in the Annex, located on 43rd Street. The application process begins in January. Click here for information regarding Pre-K enrollment.

How do I enroll my child into Kindergarten?
We offer General Education, Special Education, Dual Language (Spanish), and Gifted & Talented (TAG) classes for our incoming Kindergarten students. Click here for more information about the kindergarten application process, which begins in December.

PS150Q gives priority to zoned students. Check the NYC school search to find out if you are zoned for our school. If you are zoned, please review the pre-registration checklist before you come to register your child.

We live in the district and this is our zone school, will my child get a seat?
In Kindergarten, at the time acceptance letters go out, not every zoned child may be offered a seat, BUT there is a lot of shuffling that occurs in District 30. During the summer, families move, kids get offered into one program, families start declining seats, and seats open up. This is not true for the TAG and the Dual Language programs. This is a different wait list but another list you need to constantly call to see where your child is at on the list. It is very likely, you will receive a notice over the summer and possibly in the beginning of the school year that a seat has become available. You may reach out to the Parent Coordinator, Mr. Figueroa to see where your child is on the wait list.

As mentioned above, our school has three UPK full day classes, siblings receive priority. We are hoping to expand our UPK program to include more classes, but physical space is limited. You may look into other UPK programs in District 30. There are seven Kindergarten classes with an average of 25 students in each class.

How many children attend PS150Q?
We currently have around 800 students enrolled at PS150Q. Kindergarten classes consist of 20-25 students. 1st-6th grade class sizes may increase to 30 students.

How do I enroll my child into the Gifted and Talented (TAG) program?
Gifted and Talented classes are offered from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Testing for placement occurs in January; sign-up for testing begins in October. Click here to learn more about the Gifted and Talented programs.

What is the Dual Language Application Process?
PS150Q offers Dual Language Spanish. It is currently part of the general Kindergarten application, you will need to enter the Dual Language program code. Typically, Dual Language classes accept half native Spanish speakers and half English speakers. You will receive a notification from the school whether you have been accepted into the program or waitlisted.

How do I enroll my child in grades 1 - 5?
